Announcement
November 2, 2007
To all members of the IWTA-NAS:
It may come as no surprise to many of you that Jeff Webb has announced his “COMPLETE AND FINAL resignation from the IWTA-NAS.”
This was Jeff’s own personal choice. But as a result of this choice, please be aware that Jeff Webb is no longer authorized to represent the IWTA-NAS or Leung Ting WingTsun® in any capacity whatsoever. He has not been a manager or employee of the IWTA-NAS since his resignation from management 5 weeks ago. He is now no longer an instructor, member, or student of the IWTA-NAS or of Leung Ting WingTsun®. He is not authorized to teach any IWTA-NAS or Leung Ting WingTsun® seminars or classes. He is not authorized to collect any further fees or payments or transact any business in the name of the IWTA-NAS or Leung Ting WingTsun®.
The original idea when the IWTA-NAS was founded six years ago (after the break-up of the AWTO) was to have a board that would democratically run the association for the good of all. Despite this original intent, over the last six years the management of the IWTA-NAS primarily became a one-man-show.
A one-man-show is not necessarily bad; however, over the years a growing number of concerns and complaints regarding the management of the IWTA-NAS were brought to the attention of Great Grandmaster Leung Ting and the other shareholders of the IWTA-NAS, LLC. In September of 2007, these concerns and complaints from instructors across the United States and Canada had grown to a point where they needed to be brought to the table for resolution at the IWTA-NAS, LLC shareholders’ meeting.
Under the regulations of the LLC and Texas LLC law, managing members are elected by the shareholders. With a desire to resolve issues and move forward in a positive manner, it was decided that a change in management was necessary. After many hours of discussion, GGM Leung Ting requested that we create a team of managers to more democratically run the association (as was originally envisioned) and to provide checks and balances, transparency, and fairness to all.
This plan was approved at the shareholders’ meeting. Jeff was asked to be part of this new management team. He initially accepted, but within a few days he changed his mind. Before GGM Leung Ting left Texas, Jeff resigned from the management of the IWTA-NAS, refusing to accept a position on the new management team. He did, however, promise to make the transition “as smooth as possible.”
The transition began. Jeff promised to “have EVERYTHING off my plate and in your hands” by October 31st. He also said, “…you have my word that I will meet the October 31st date I have set.”
As of November 1st, we have received approximately 25% of the requested files, records, and property of the IWTA-NAS. Jeff has stated that more boxes were shipped this week. We do not know what is in the remaining boxes, as we have not yet received them. Despite the missed deadline and despite Jeff’s complete resignation now from the IWTA-NAS, we expect that they should contain all of the remaining files, records, and property of the IWTA-NAS (physical and electronic) that Jeff promised to send and is legally required to send. If for some reason they do not, we will be contacting you regarding anything for which we have incomplete, inaccurate, or missing data and will proceed to rebuild the association’s database and records by hand and will take it from there.
As WingTsun™ instructors, we all know to stay with what comes, follow through as it retreats, and go forward when free. This is not just a fighting motto, it is a living philosophy. As GGM Leung Ting would say, “Don’t make a mistake…” The changes you have seen today and over the last 5 weeks represent a critical turning point for the IWTA-NAS. You have more opportunity to help influence and build the future of Leung Ting WingTsun® in North America… and to build YOUR future in WingTsun™… than you have likely ever had before.
The new IWTA-NAS Management Team works for YOU. And we thank you for your continued support and contributions to the development of Leung Ting WingTsun® in North America.
Sincerely,
Sifu Mike Adams
